Mohamed Salah proves Liverpool greatness by setting two Old Trafford records

Send Push

Liverpool enjoyed another great day out at Old Trafford, and Mohamed Salah added to his impressive personal tally.

He caused some alarm after the game by dropping his biggest hint yet that this could be his final season, but was the bringer of yet more joy on the pitch as he chalked up a couple more records. Statistically, Manchester United was already Salah's favorite opponent to face. After scoring on Sunday and laying on two for Luis Diaz, he has a remarkable 11 Premier League goals and six assists against the Red Devils.

Incredibly, Salah has now also scored in each of his last seven visits to Old Trafford. He's not just the first Liverpool player to do that, but the first player ever.

It's an absolutely absurd record, and one it's hard to wrap your head around. Not so long ago, Liverpool would have delightedly accepted a run of seven straight games of scoring at Old Trafford as a collective, never mind just from Salah.

Erik ten Hag can point to his two trophies all he likes, but it has never been clearer that the tables have comprehensively turned. Liverpool is the better side by an absolute mile, and nobody has defined this new era of dominance more than Salah.

The 4-1 win in 2008/09 (to which Trent Alexander-Arnold paid a VAR-aborted homage on Sunday) is still talked about — it was such a big moment because it was so rare. But in the time that Salah has been at the club, Liverpool has chalked up 3-0, 4-2 and 5-0 wins at Old Trafford as well, now going into these games as the clear favorite.

To put it into perspective, Antony has six Old Trafford goals in his Manchester United career across all competitions. Salah has outscored the $105m (£80m/€95m) winger at the Theatre of Dreams, despite only visiting once or twice a season.

Salah arrived at Anfield in 2017 for less than half that amount. Antony was an unused substitute against Liverpool this time, while his fellow Ajax alumni were all outshone by Ryan Gravenberch, a humiliating moment for Ten Hag's recruitment.

From the boardroom to the pitch, Manchester United appears as directionless as ever. This latest record for Salah underlines how far they have fallen, but it also begs the question of just how far this Liverpool side can rise.

Liverpool.com says: Savor these times, for they are special. Nobody has tormented Manchester United quite like Salah, and these results should never be taken for granted.

Salah underscored that with his sobering contract reminder after the match. But for now, enjoy every last moment, because Liverpool no longer has anything to fear from Old Trafford and it feels fantastic.
