Commentary
The pitch has certainly quickened up on Day 2, and Jofra Archer, in particular, will relish the prospect of bowling in these conditions.
Jamie Smith continued his rich vein of form in the series, while Brydon Carse was equally impressive, bringing up his maiden Test fifty. Their 84-run stand proved invaluable, helping England forge a solid recovery after blows early in the morning. Returning to the side after a break at Edgbaston, Jasprit Bumrah was the pick of the bowlers with a sensational five-wicket haul, a performance that earns him a place on the Lord’s honours board for the first time in his career. Mohammed Siraj bowled his heart out without much luck. Smith was dropped on 5 off his bowling by KL Rahul, and Siraj eventually finished with two wickets to his name.
England have been bowled out for 387! They will gladly take that, having been in trouble at 271 for 7 earlier in the morning. The last three wickets added 116 runs and that could make all the difference when we look back at the game. Joe Root, with his 37th Test hundred, was the standout performer for the hosts. The two Bens, Duckett and Stokes, along with Ollie Pope, all got starts but couldn’t convert them into big scores.

Mohammed Siraj to Brydon Carse, OUT! CLEANED HIM UP! And that's curtains on England's innings! Carse shows his cards very early as he shuffles way outside off. And spotting that, Siraj fires in a pinpoint yorker, right at the base of the middle stump. Carse tries to whip that away to the leg side, but does not lay any bat on it and hears the stumps shattering behind him. Siraj finishes with a couple of wickets as England are bundled up on 387.

Mohammed Siraj to Brydon Carse, Woah! What was that from Siraj? Bends his back and digs in a steep bumper, but going way down leg and deviates further away from the batter. Carse walks forward and then ducks under the ball as it just flies way far to the left of the keeper to the deep fine leg fence.

Akash Deep to Shoaib Bashir, Length and outside off, left alone.
Well, this is something you don’t see often in cricket. The shot Brydon Carse played to bring up his fifty actually cleared the ropes and should have been given as a six, as confirmed by the replays. However, it was given as a four. Nasser Hussain has informed on air that the error will be corrected.

Mohammed Siraj to Brydon Carse, DROPPED BY JUREL! Oh dear! Siraj is down on his haunches in disbelief! Back of a length, outside off with some extra lift on it. Brydon Carse swings and swings really hard at it, but only manages to get an outside edge and the ball flies to the right of the leaping Dhruv Jurel behind the wickets. Jurel sticks out his right hand to pluck out of thin air, but parries it to the gully region for a single.

Mohammed Siraj to Brydon Carse, Outside off, on a good length, slapped by Carse with brute force to the deep cover region. Akash Deep throws it at the wrong end as the batters complete the second run. Siraj is not happy with the throw as he wanted Akash to throw at his end.

Mohammed Siraj to Brydon Carse, FIFTY FOR CARSE! A brilliant knock from him so far! Back-of-the-hand slower ball from Siraj, full and outside off. Brydon Carse waits, and waits for it and smashes it over the bowler. It goes all the way for a flat six.

Mohammed Siraj to Brydon Carse, DROPPED? Or is it? Back of a length, angling on middle and leg. Brydon Carse clears the front leg and swings across, but mistimes it aerially off the toe end of the bat. The ball sails and descends to the right of Akash Deep who is standing a few yards ahead from the ropes at widish deep mid-wicket. Akash misjudges it and tries to grab it with a dive to his right, with both his hands stretched in front, but does not even manage to get a hand on it as the ball bursts through. Akash falls over on the ground and the ball bounces near him and gets parried behind off his right boot before rolling towards the fence behind. But Akash recovers as he gets up and stops the ball, keeping the batters down to a couple.

Jasprit Bumrah to Shoaib Bashir, Was there a glove or bat involved? Bumrah bangs it around the halfway on the pitch and slides it down leg. Shoaib Bashir tries to play the pull shot but it passes close to the bat and Dhruv Jurel flings himself to his left, even gets his left hand on it but doesn't cling on it and parries the ball just behind him. The UltraEdge shows later that it went through alone with no spike on it.
