U.S. Vice President JD Vance to Visit India from April 21; Three-Day Stay Scheduled in Jaipur

JAIPUR — April 20, 2025: United States Vice President JD Vance will begin a highly anticipated official visit to India on April 21, marking the first visit by a U.S. Vice President to India in over a decade. After holding a bilateral meeting with Prime Minister Narendra Modi in New Delhi, Vance will arrive in Jaipur the same night for a three-day cultural and diplomatic visit, accompanied by his wife Usha Vance, their three children — Ivan, Vivek, and Mirabel — and a delegation of senior U.S. officials.

A Diplomatic Tour with a Cultural Embrace

Vice President Vance’s visit to Jaipur from April 21 to April 24 is part of a broader strategy to deepen U.S.-India relations through diplomacy, trade, and cultural exchange. His itinerary includes:

• April 21 (Night): Arrival at Jaipur Airport at 9:30 PM followed by a ceremonial welcome and check-in at the Rambagh Palace Hotel.

• April 22 (Morning): Visit to Amber Fort at 9:00 AM, featuring a traditional Rajasthani welcome with Jodhpuri safas, puppet shows, and folk music.

• April 22 (Afternoon): Keynote address at the Business Summit at Rajasthan International Center, where Vance will speak on U.S.-India trade partnerships.

• April 22 (Evening): Meetings with Rajasthan Chief Minister Bhajanlal Sharma and Governor Haribhau Bagde.

• April 23: Morning trip to Agra to tour the Taj Mahal, returning to Jaipur by 2:00 PM for a visit to Jaipur City Palace.

• April 24 (Morning): Departure for Washington D.C. at 6:30 AM from Jaipur Airport.

High-Security Measures and Grand Hospitality

To ensure safety and privacy, extensive security arrangements have been put in place:

• Over 20 government vehicles and a dedicated ambulance team with senior doctors will accompany the VP’s convoy.

• Plainclothes intelligence officers and Rajasthan Police will be deployed at key locations.

• At Amber Fort, public entry will be restricted during the Vance family’s visit.

• Tight coordination with U.S. Secret Service has led to selective route closures and red-carpet arrangements at the airport.

According to Amber Fort Superintendent Dr. Rakesh Cholak, the site has been fully restored and secured for the visit, with 12 pre-cleared guides appointed for the tour.

A Historic Return After 13 Years

This visit is notable as it marks the first visit of a U.S. Vice President to India since Joe Biden’s trip in 2013. Vance’s presence reflects growing ties between the world’s two largest democracies. His cultural engagements in Jaipur symbolize a shift towards soft diplomacy, even as trade and strategic defense cooperation remain high on the agenda.

Upon arrival in New Delhi, Vance will be greeted by External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar, and during his meeting with PM Modi, National Security Advisor Ajit Doval is also expected to be present. Jaishankar may also accompany the Vice President during his visit to Amber Fort on April 22.
