Nagpur: A hailstorm hit Pauni taluka in Bhandara district on Monday afternoon, district officials said. Gondia recorded 15.8mm of rainfall in the last 24 hours as thunderstorms accompanied by gusty winds of up to 40-50 km/h lashed several districts in Vidarbha over the last two days. Bhandara also recorded 3mm of rainfall in the last 24 hours, but no major damage to crops, property, or humans was reported.
An appreciable fall in maximum temperature was recorded in the districts experiencing rain and thunderstorms. The Regional Meteorological Centre (RMC) has forecast thunderstorms and light rain to continue until May 2.
Nagpur recorded 42.3 degrees Celsius, but the temperature came down towards late afternoon as isolated places in the districts started receiving mild rain. A gentle breeze blew all day, keeping the weather pleasant.
Yet, some districts continued to sizzle as Akola recorded 44.5 degrees Celsius, the highest in the region for the day. Other West Vidarbha districts like Yavatmal, Washim, Wardha, and Amravati recorded over 42 degrees Celsius, making it a hot day. Buldhana and Brahmapuri temperatures also touched 41 degrees Celsius.
Gondia recorded the lowest maximum temperature of 38 degrees Celsius, closely followed by Bhandara at 38.6 degrees.
