Bengaluru: Koramangala police arrested two individuals for allegedly trying to extort Rs 2 crore from a retired engineer by threatening to release a doctored video.
The accused Ajay and Abhi were arrested based on the complaint filed by the victim Gangappa (68), a resident of Koramangala.
According to the complaint, the accused, who hail from the same village as Gangappa, initially contacted him claiming they had an “important matter” to discuss. When the victim was in Davanagere, he agreed to meet them near the district court. During the meeting, the accused showed him what they claimed was a sex video involving him.
Shocked by the footage, Gangappa realized the videos were edited. The accused then assured him the videos would be deleted if he paid them. On March 15, they called again, demanding Rs 2 crore and threatening to leak the video to the media if their demands were not met.
When they met him again in Bengaluru on March 17, the accused repeated the demand. They later reduced the ransom to Rs 40 lakh, promising to keep the videos from going public. Disturbed by the threats, Gangappa filed a police complaint. The Koramangala police acted swiftly and arrested the duo. Further investigation is ongoing.
