Hours after electronic devices used by armed group Hezbollah , exploded in Lebanon , Israel 's defence minister Yoav Gallant on Wednesday declared that focus has shifted to war ds its northern front as a “new phase” of the war is beginning.

“The center of gravity is moving north. We are diverting forces, resources, and energy toward the north,” Gallant says to Israeli Air Force personnel at the Ramat David Airbase," News agency Reuters quoted him as saying. "We are opening a new phase in the war - it requires courage, determination and perseverance from us."

Gallant’s remarks were echoed by Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and armed forces chief Lieutenant General Herzi Halevi in separate statements.

“We will return the residents of the north securely to their homes,” Netanyahu said in a statement issued by his office.

Benjamin Netanyahu also vowed to return tens of thousands of residents evacuated from northern border areas to their homes. “I have said it before, we will return the citizens of the north to their homes in security and that’s exactly what we are going to do,” he said.

Israeli army chief Herzi Halevi mentioned that they possess numerous "capabilities" which have not yet been deployed. "We plan in stages, and at each stage, Hezbollah will pay a significant price," he said, according to Reuters.

Explosions involving pagers used by Hezbollah members injured over 2,750 people. The following day, at least 14 people were killed and more than 450 injured when walkie-talkies and other communication devices used by Hezbollah members also exploded.

Lebanese internal security forces reported that multiple wireless communication devices were detonated across the country, particularly in Beirut's southern suburbs, a Hezbollah stronghold. Hezbollah accused Israel of a "breach" of its communications system.

Meanwhile, a Taiwanese company denied producing the pagers involved in the explosion , which has raised concerns about the possibility of full-scale war between Hezbollah, supported by Iran , and Israel.

Hezbollah had earlier advised its members to avoid using mobile phones after the Israel-Hamas war began in October of last year, urging them to rely on their own telecommunications system to prevent Israeli interference.
