NEW DELHI: Micro-blogging platform X (formerly Twitter) on Wednesday briefly blocked handles of China’s state-run media outlet Global Times and Turkish state broadcaster TRT World for spreading misinformation regarding the Indian armed forces and Operation Sindoor against Pakistan. The suspension was revoked after a few hours.
The suspension came days after the Indian embassy in China — responding to a claim that an Indian fighter jet had been shot down — cautioned Global Times to verify facts before posting on social media.
The X handle of TRT World was temporarily withheld for disseminating misinformation and fake news after India carried out precision strikes on terror camps in Pakistan and Pakistan-Occupied Kashmir on May 6-7.
