UP villagers beat leopard dead after it attacks homeguard

NEW DELHI: A leopard was reportedly beaten to death in Amannagar village in Uttar Pradesh 's Bijnor after it attacked a home guard jawan on Friday. The incident was reported by Divisional Forest Officer (DFO) Gyan Singh on Saturday.

Singh said that homeguard Jawan Surendra encountered the leopard, who was sitting on a mango tree, when he went to a tubewell behind his house with his children — Disha (20), Reshu (14), and Deepanshu (18).

The leopard pounced on him and attacked him after the encounter. The locals also arrived at the scene after hearing the noises and beat the leopard with sticks because of which it died on the spot, Singh said.

Singh also informed that according to the villagers , the three kids tried to save their father where Disha courageously held the leopard's legs from behind while Reshu and Deepanshu struggled with the leopard for 10 minutes.

Singh said that information about the incident had been shared with senior officials and the post-mortem of the leopard has been done.

Ranger Rajneesh Tomar said that the dead leopard was a female and was estimated to be around three years old. Departmental action is being taken in this case.
