Manipur: Mob loots arms from police station during clash in Ukhrul

IMPHAL: Arms were looted by a mob that stormed a police station in Manipur 's Ukhrul town while a clash between two groups were underway.

The number and types of weapons looted cannot be immediately confirmed as an investigation is underway, he added.

Earlier on Wednesday, three persons were killed and 20 others injured in a gunfight that broke out between two groups over cleaning a disputed land in the town as part of ' Swachhata Abhiyan .

The police station was attacked when the violence was underway.

Following the clash between the two groups of the Naga community , prohibitory orders were imposed and mobile internet services were suspended

"After violence broke out in Ukhrul town, a mob comprising mostly of youths stormed the police station located at Wino Bazar and decamped with government weapons," an official had said.

Violence broke out between the Meitei people and the Kuki-Zo tribal community in India's north-eastern state of Manipur on 3 May 2023. The conflict occurred between the Meitei community, living in the Imphal Valley, and the Kuki-Zo people, who reside in the surrounding hills.
