NEW DELHI: A CBI court in Delhi on Tuesday sentenced industrialist Manoj Kumar Jayaswal to three years of rigorous imprisonment (RI) for using forged documents to obtain Mahuagarhi coal block allocation in Jharkhand for JAS Infrastructure and Capital Private Limited , where he served as managing director then.
Special judge Sanjay Bansal also imposed a fine of Rs 5 lakh on Jayaswal and Rs 2 crore on the company. The case pertains to alleged irregularities in allocation of coal blocks to private companies between 2006 and 2009.
Following the sentencing, Jayaswal filed an application seeking suspension of the sentence to allow time for an appeal in Delhi high court.
"In view of the submissions made, the sentence of imprisonment awarded to the convict shall remain suspended for 60 days, and he is admitted to bail upon furnishing a personal bond and a surety bond of Rs 1 lakh each," the court said.
