'Get a BJP ticket': AAP MLA asks Swati Maliwal to resign from Rajya Sabha after remarks on Atishi

NEW DELHI: As the Aam Aadmi Party 's (AAP) Rajya Sabha MP Swati Maliwal slammed the party's decision to name Atishi as the new Delhi chief minister after Arvind Kejriwal , the party MLA demanded her resignation and accused her of working on Bharatiya Janata Party's (BJP) agenda.

On Tuesday, Maliwal termed the Kalkaji MLA Atishi a "dummy CM" and called it a "sad day" for the national capital. She also openly criticised the AAP supremo for appointing someone as Delhi's CM whose parents had sought mercy for terrorist Afzal Guru and said 'May God protect Delhi.'

"Today is a very sad day for Delhi. Today, a woman is being made the CM of Delhi whose family fought a long battle to save terrorist Afzal Guru from hanging. Her parents wrote mercy petitions to the Honorable President to save terrorist Afzal Guru. According to them, Afzal Guru was innocent and was framed as part of a political conspiracy." She added, "Although Atishi Marlena is just a 'Dummy CM', still this issue is related to the security of the country. May God protect Delhi!, "said Maliwal in a post on X.

Soon, senior AAP leader Dilip Pandey responded to Maliwal's statement and accused her of following the BJP's agenda. He even demanded her resignation from the upper house of the parliament.

"Understand one thing. Swati Maliwal is a person who takes the ticket to Rajya Sabha from AAP but takes the script to react from BJP. If she has even a little shame, she should resign as a Rajya Sabha MP and choose the path to Rajya Sabha on a BJP ticket. If she wants to be in Rajya Sabha, she should get a ticket from BJP," said Pandey.

Swati Maliwal and AAP relations went downhill after the former alleged that she was assaulted by Kejriwal's close aide Bibhav Kumar at CM's house.

However, Kumar was granted bail earlier this month by the Supreme Court. The apex court noted that Kumar had been in custody for 100 days and that a chargesheet was already filed in the case. The court also directed that Bibhav Kumar should not be reinstated as the personal assistant or given any official assignment in the CM office.
