Centre plotting to disempower new J&K govt: Omar

Send Push
SRINAGAR: National Conference (NC) vice-president Omar Abdullah on Friday accused the Centre of bringing changes in govt’s business rules ahead of the assembly election results on Oct 8 to clip the incoming dispensation’s wings.

He claimed BJP had asked the chief secretary to change the “transaction of business rules” and assign them to the lieutenant-governor (LG), having sensed defeat in the elections. The former CM urged J&K bureaucrats to resist pressure to “further disempower” the incoming govt.

“BJP has clearly accepted defeat in J&K. Why else would the chief secretary be assigned the duty to change transaction of business rules to curtail the powers of the chief minister/elected govt and assign the same to the LG?” Omar posted on X. He claimed he got this “information from within the secretariat”.
