Hosp staff held for stealing bangles from body

Varanasi: Chitaipur police arrested Rahul Pal of Bhadohi district late Tuesday night. Pal, who worked at a hospital in Bhikharipur area, was apprehended for stealing three gold bangles from the body of a woman, who died during treatment on May 2. The theft took place while the body was in the hospital's mortuary and Pal's actions were captured on CCTV camera. Chitaipur police station in charge, Praveen Singh, said on Wednesday that Pal was caught after evidence, including CCTV footage. The stolen bangles were recovered from him, he added. During investigation, it came to light that Bina Keshari, resident of Ahraura in Mirzapur district, was attending her daughter Nancy's engagement ceremony on May 2 at a banquet hall in Manduadih area, when she fell ill and was admitted to the hospital. Bina's son-in-law, Vimal Keshari, informed Chitaipur police that she died during treatment and her three gold bangles were missing.

Based on Vimal's complaint, Chitaipur police began investigating and when they checked the hospital's CCTV footage, Pal's caught on camera installed in the hospital's mortuary. Subsequently, police arrested him.
