Varanasi: A mechanic suffered a bullet injury when miscreants opened fire at the SUV of Banaras Bar Association president Satish Kumar Tiwari at 1.30 am on Wednesday. In response to the incident, BBA members convened an emergency meeting and sought security for Tiwari and immediate arrest of the assailants.
ACP Cantt Vidush Saxena said when mechanic Sonu Sonkar and his assistants were taking the SUV of BBA chief Satish Kumar Tiwari to his garage for repair, they got into a heated argument with some car-borne youths and during the dispute, the miscreants opened fire at Sonu and fled. He added that Sonu suffered a bullet injury in the shoulder but his condition was stable. Teams were engaged for early arrest of the assailants.
A large number of lawyers gathered on the district court compound and at BBA meeting hall and demanded immediate arrest of the assailants and security for Tiwari and his family.
Earlier, when Tiwari was returning home from a function, his SUV stopped in Suddhipur area under Shivpur police station due to a mechanical snag. He called Sonu Sonkar from the garage and left for home after handing over the car to him. As Sonu was taking the vehicle to his garage with the help of an assistant, some car-borne miscreants got into a spat with them and though Sonu paid no attention to them and tried to move on, they shot at him and fled.
