ZORO Warns Meiteis In Mizoram Amid Rising Tensions In Manipur

Aizawl: Zo Reunification Organisation (ZORO) on Tuesday issued a veiled threat to the Meitei community living peacefully in Mizoram, warning that they should take great care if the ethnic Mizos in Manipur continue to suffer atrocities from the Meiteis.

In a press release issued in Aizawl, ZORO said an ethnic Mizo woman was brutally burned alive after reportedly being shot, raped, and tortured at Zairawn village in Jeribam district of Manipur on Nov 7 night by suspected Meitei militants who also torched over 10 homes in the village.

Following this incident, the ZORO claimed that CRPF personnel, who are supposed to be neutral forces, gunned down over 10 tribal people on Nov 11, further intensifying the ethnic conflict in Manipur.

"Ethnic Mizos in different parts of the world as well as within India are facing serious problems at present. This is the time for all the ‘Zofate' across the globe to unite as we all belong to the same stock, blood, and ancestry," the release stated.

The Mizo Zirlai Pawl (MZP), or Mizo Students' Federation, also issued a press statement strongly condemning the deaths of the rape victim and 11 village volunteers in Jeribam district.

The MZP described the brutal acts of Meitei radicals in murdering the victim as inhuman and uncivilized, adding that the barbaric actions of Meitei groups and the CRPF have brought shame to the Meitei community, the Central Armed Police Forces (CAPF), and India as a whole.

"It is highly regrettable that all the Mizos will remember the CRPF as a force unleashing violence against the people as well as murderers from now on. The MZP demands that the Ministry of Home Affairs should initiate investigations into the incidents and bring the perpetrators of these heinous crimes to justice," the press statement added.
