Guwahati: The influential Kuki Students' Organization (KSO) on Tuesday declared "non-cooperation" with CRPF and demanded their confinement to designated camps until they issue an apology for the killing of 10 ‘village volunteers' in Jiribam district on Monday.
The KSO proclamation emerges as a direct response to Monday's counter-offensive operation by Crpf in conjunction with Manipur Police in Jiribam, resulting in the elimination of 10 individuals. While Manipur Police labelled them as "militants," Kuki-Zo hill communities staunchly refute this designation, asserting they were 'village volunteers' serving their communities.
Addressing the KSO directive, Manipur IGP (AP-OPS) IK Muivah emphasized that police and security forces operate under governmental mandate and leadership of their respective forces. "So they will be working as per their duty, and that is their mandate and that is the duty. They will try to do it with a lot of restraint and lot of fairness as much as possible. That is what the security forces are trying to do in this very difficult times," he said.
The KSO general headquarters issued an explicit warning: "Any CRPF personnel violating this notice shall proceed at their own risk and responsibility. This directive takes immediate effect upon issuance and remains enforced until CRPF publicly acknowledges and apologizes for their barbaric actions in Jiribam."
The KSO instructed all its districts and blocks to "align with public sentiments and ensure immediate enforcement of this notice."
"This constitutes part of the broader ‘non-cooperation against CRPF' movement within Kuki-dominated areas, and we urge public compliance until further notice," the KSO said.
