Itanagar: Arunachal deputy chief minister Chowna Mein on Tuesday highlighted the state's progress in the energy sector.
Representing the state at the Power Ministers Conference of States and Union Territories chaired by Union power minister Manohar Lal Khattar in New Delhi, he highlighted the improved financial health of DISCOMs, reduction in aggregate technical & commercial losses and significant developments in smart metering under the Revamped Distribution Sector Scheme, an official statement said.
He underscored the state's immense hydropower potential of 58,000 MW, with major projects like Subansiri (2,000 MW) and Dibang (2,880 MW) driving growth.
Mein projected a 4.98% increase in energy demand for FY 2024-25, with plans to add 634 MWs of new capacity.
He sought central assistance for transmission upgrades, pumped storage projects and Arunachal's inclusion in the green energy corridor to meet India's renewable energy target of 500 GW by 2030.
Mein also emphasised the importance of solar-based rural electrification.
