Dibrugarh: Four persons, including a 7-year-old child, lost their lives when their vehicle plunged into a roadside water body on the Dibrugarh-Tinsukia bypass early Tuesday morning. Two others sustained injuries in the accident.
The deceased have been identified as Mohan Shah (51), Montu Shah (31), Rajesh Gupta (36) and his son Arth (7). The incident occurred around 4am when the family was travelling from Dibrugarh Railway Station to Bordubi in Tinsukia district.
Initial reports suggest that the vehicle, driven by Mohan, may have hit a bump near a pool before veering off the road and plunging into the water body. Locals rushed to the scene after hearing a loud noise and managed to rescue two survivors — Rajesh Gupta’s wife and their 5-year-old daughter. They were immediately transported to Tinsukia Civil Hospital.
Rajesh, a resident of Araria, Bihar, had arrived with his family to attend the wedding of Mohan’s son scheduled for Nov 16. Rajesh happened to be the brother in-law of Mohan.
