Clubs, schools, industries owe Rs 1,247 crore to Tamil Nadu govt

CHENNAI: Madras Race Club (MRC) and at least 18 big names such as Cosmopolitan Club, Tamil Nadu Golf Club, Madras United Club, the Seafarer's Club, Kalakshetra, and DRBCC School together owe 1,247 crore to the Tamil Nadu govt.

Commissioner of land administration, which pegged MRC's dues at 812.5 crore, has documents that show many other clubs, industries, and institutions in the city together owe the govt at least 435 crore in rent and lease.

For the 80.4 acres that the Cosmopolitan Club and the Tamil Nadu Golf Club have been leased out, the govt is yet to get lease rent dues of 119.7 crore.

Other clubs who have defaulted include Madras United Club (24.63 crore), Seafarer's Club (23.14 crore), Gandhi Nagar Cricket Club (2 crore) and Chennai Press Club (88 lakh). Satya Studio owes the govt 31.06 crore. P T Lee Chengalvarayan Naickar Trust owes 129.83 crore.
