Chennai teacher, 52, held for raping two students

CHENNAI: A 52-year-old teacher has been arrested for sexually abusing two girl students at a panchayat union school near Tiruttani on Thursday.

On Wednesday, police said Bhaskar, a Mathematics teacher at the govt higher secondary school, was accused of sexually abusing a student of Class VI and another of Class IX. The incidents occurred when the teacher called the students to the staff room. The children ran back to their classrooms and did not disclose the sexual abuse to any other teachers, police sources said.

Later, the abuse was reported by the victims to their parents, who subsequently informed the child welfare committee (CWC). The CWC conducted an inquiry and filed a complaint with the Tiruttani all women police station.

Following an investigation, Bhaskar has been charged under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act and has been remanded in judicial custody.
