MARGAO: Fatorda police on Friday arrested a 51-year-old man for allegedly raping two minor sisters, aged 8 and 9. Police identified the accused as a native of Jharkhand.
According to police sources, the accused, who lived in the survivors’ neighbourhood within the Fatorda police station jurisdiction, committed the crimes during March and April this year.
The accused committed the rapes when the mother of the minor girls was away at her native place.
She entrusted the accused with the responsibility of escorting her daughters to and from school during her absence.
Police sources said that the accused sexually assaulted the minors during this period and threatened them with dire consequences if they revealed it to anyone.
Following a complaint filed by the victims’ mother, Fatorda police arrested the accused.
He is charged under Sections 64 (rape) and 351 (criminal intimidation) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), along with relevant provisions of the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (Pocso) Act and the Goa Children’s Act.
Further investigation is underway , police said.
