Prayagraj: In a major initiative to enhance healthcare services in city, super specialty outpatient departments (OPDs) are set to be launched soon at Motilal Nehru Divisional Hospital (popularly known as Colvin Hospital) and TB Sapru Hospital (commonly referred to as Beli Hospital). These OPDs will be operated in collaboration with the Cantonment Hospital, ensuring access to specialist doctors and affordable medicines for the public.
The move, which received consent from both hospitals, aims to provide expert consultations in areas such as cardiology, nephrology, gastroenterology, oncology, and neurology. The initiative is expected to bring much-needed relief to patients and their families, who often travel far or bear high costs to access such care. Importantly, the medicines prescribed by these specialists will be available at Jan Aushadhi Kendras at significantly lower prices, further reducing the financial burden on patients. Chief Medical Superintendent of Colvin Hospital, Dr Suman Kumar Chaudhary confirmed that designated OPD rooms are already prepared to host super specialty doctors. "Our aim is to ensure that quality treatment and affordable medicines are within the reach of every citizen. This new facility is planned to be operational within a week," she stated.
Medical superintendent of Beli Hospital, Dr MK Akhouri also highlighted that preparations are underway to facilitate OPDs for kidney diseases, neuro medicine, and heart conditions. The hospital administration has formally communicated this to the office of the additional director of medical health. This initiative draws from the successful experience of the recently concluded Maha Kumbh, where the ICU services were efficiently managed by Cantonment Hospital with virtual support from top hospitals in Lucknow.
Also leftover medical supplies from the Maha Kumbh will now be utilised in district and divisional hospitals to further support this project.
