Prayagraj: The Jal Sansthan will waive off the interest for those who haven't paid water tax. This decision was taken on the instructions of Mayor Ganesh Kesarwani. Consumers can take advantage of this scheme until July 31. It is assumed that around 50,000 people will benefit from this initiative.
According to Jal Sansthan officials, 2.10 lakh building owners have drinking water connections. Of these, 1.20 lakh households paid water and sewer tax in the last financial year. Interest was charged on the due payments of those who could not pay the water and sewer tax. Now, more people will be able to take advantage of the interest waiver facility by paying the water tax. At the same time, this will also increase the revenue of the department.
According to the officials, starting the facility of interest waiver will benefit those consumers who have limited means of earning. "Efforts are being made to provide better facilities to the citizens. Keeping in mind that more people should pay tax without interest, the facility of interest waiver has been given," said Mayor Ganesh Kesarwani.
