Hyderabad Set for Economic Boost with Upcoming Karimnagar-Warangal Direct Rail Link – Here's How

Hyderabad: Telangana's two urban nodes are set for an enhanced transportation upgrade within the state. The Railways Ministry is planning to lay a 62-km long railway line connecting Karimnagar to Hasanparthi, Warangal. The estimated cost of the project is Rs 1,116 crore. While Warangal is one of the major railway junction in the state, Karimnagar station runs a handful of trains with a numerous limitations. Authorities expect that the initiative will also increase passengers movement to and from Hyderabad that will subsequently boost business in the state capital. Once the railway line is laid between the two cities, it will significantly increase the movement of passengers not just for tourism, but also for business, agriculture education and healthcare. Authorities expect that the new railway line will be a good use for social-economic development of region. This line will link important towns like Manakondur and Huzurabad with Hyderabad. There are several such places throughout route proposed route that will be will have a railway connectivity for the first time ever. Once a number of places are directly connected to Hyderabad, it is expected a increased movement to the city. Karimnagar railway station facilitates a few diesel electrical multiple unit (DEMU) trains running to Sirpur Kagaznagar, Nizamabad, Peddapalli and Kacheguda, and lacks long-distance services. Given that, a direct rail connectivity from Karimnagar to Warangal that is linked with several major cities in Telangana, will also encourage passengers to opt for railway as a comfortable transportation option. Karimnagar MP Bandi Sanjay Kumar, also Union Minister of State for home affairs, recently met Union Railways Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw to press for the need to take expedited action on key railway projects for the Karimnagar-Hasanparthy line and the upgradation of Uppal station. To which, the railways minister responded positively.

Owing to which, a majority of residents here have to rely on RTC buses for transport. The wait for a railway connection is many decades old. It has been a long-standing demand of Karimnagar . Currently, a bi-weekly express train runs between Karimnagar and Tirupati, covering 119 km via Peddapalli junction and taking four hours to reach Warangal.“This will help passenger movement to and from Hyderabad. The line will also support the granite industry by allowing them to export their products via Kakinada port using a shorter route,” said a senior railway officer, quoted Times of India.
