Chennai to Use Drones for Aid Delivery, Identifying Vulnerable Areas. Check Weather Update

Chennai: Incessant rain in the city has affected the daily life of Chennai residents. With many being displaced, and left with no food other essential items, the state government has started a drive to provide essential supplies and food packets to those affected by the recent rains in the city and surrounding areas. The Greater Chennai Corporation (GCC) has collaborated with Garuda Aerospace, a drone start-up, for this initiative. The advanced technology will also be used for aerial surveys to find out the damager, identify vulnerable areas as well as for coordinating relief efforts. Agnishwar Jayaprakash, Garuda Aerospace Founder-CEO, in a company statement on Wednesday said, "We are deeply honoured to contribute our expertise and technology to the relief efforts in Chennai. Our drones have proven their capabilities in disaster response operations, and we are confident that they will make a significant difference in reaching those in need".

On Wednesday, the rain stopped, and the state government shifted its focus on providing relief in the affected areas. Chennai Rains UpdatesThe depression over southwest and adjoining west central Bay of Bengal moved west-northwestwards with a speed of 17 kmph during past 6 hours and lay centered at 1730 hours IST of today, the 16th October 2024 over the same region near latitude 12.9° N and longitude 81.9° E, about 190 km east-southeast of Chennai (Tamil Nadu), 250 km east-northeast of Puducherry and 270 km southeast of Nellore (Andhra Pradesh). It is expected to continue moving west-northwest and will likely cross the northern Tamil Nadu and southern Andhra Pradesh coasts between Puducherry and Nellore, close to the north of Chennai, during the early morning of 17th October. After that, it is anticipated to move further west-northwest and weaken into a well-marked low-pressure area over south coastal Andhra Pradesh and adjoining north Tamil Nadu by the morning of 17th October.
