Bengaluru Auto Rickshaw Driver Who 'Slapped, Abused' Woman for Cancelling Ride, Arrested

Bengaluru: An auto rickshaw driver who threatened a woman for cancelling a ride with him was arrested on Thursday after an outrage on social media. DGP of West Bengaluru confirmed the arrest, and added that a further inquiry is being taken against the accused. A video of the incident went viral on social media on Thursday, in which the accused could be seen "verbally assaulting" the woman. While the woman kept insisting that auto drivers often cancel the ride, the accused kept on yelling at her. The woman alleged that the accused driver snatched his phone, and slapped her.

"Yesterday in Bangalore, my friend & I booked two autos on Ola due to peak hours. I arrived first, so she canceled hers. The other auto driver followed us, furious. Despite explaining the situation, he started shouting and hurling abuses." To which, the accused yelled, "Tera Baap Deta Hai Kya Gas? Does your father pay for the gas? How can you cancel my ride by a mistake? How long did I wait here and you just chose to sit in another auto.” When the woman said that she would approach the police for his intimidating behaviour, the accused challengingly said, “Come, let us go to the police. Do you think you can scare me?”

I also have my auto driver’s number as a witness if needed," said the woman in a post in which she shared the harrowing incident with her and her friend. The woman said she booked the auto from the Ola, whose response was "disappointing". Meanwhile, Ola Support reacted to her post saying, "This sounds quite alarming, Niti. Don’t worry, we are here to help you with this. Please provide us with the CRN and your registered email ID via DM so that we can investigate this further".
