Fans of The Chase were left gobsmacked by a teacher's astonishing blunder, with calls for Ofsted to intervene.
The Wednesday (April 2) episode of the beloved ITV quiz show, hosted by Bradley Walsh, introduced us to contestants Janet, James, Izzy, and Kahlum.
James, a 26-year-old from Cardiff, accumulated £3,000 in the cash-builder round before squaring off against Chaser Shaun Wallace, aka the Dark Destroyer, at the table.
As the pressure intensified, James stood on the brink of returning to his team and contributing more to their prize fund. Yet, when Bradley delivered the question: "In England and Wales, a child can leave school in which month if they are 16 by the end of the summer holidays?"
James faltered and responded "May", explaining his confusion over whether July was too obvious a choice given the typical school term dates.
Regrettably, the correct reply was June, but fortune favoured James as Shaun Wallance made the same error in guessing July, granting James another opportunity, reports .
Still, his slip did not go unnoticed by viewers, many perplexed by the student teacher's lapse. One fan dashed off to X stating: "Call OFSTED quick, this guy is a teacher???"
Another scathed: "He calls himself a teacher and doesn't know yr 11's can leave in June after their exams. Shocking!" A third chimed in with disbelief, pleading: "Please don't be a teacher James."
In a stroke of ill fortune, James faltered on the following question and got caught out by Shaun Wallace, the Chaser. As the episode concluded, only a duo of contenders were left to take on the quiz maestro.

Despite throwing themselves into the fray, they could only muster 13 points in the final chase, consequently losing out on the hefty £8,000 at stake.
The episode was hot on the heels of an equally enthralling instalment that aired the previous day, which saw fans expressing their discontent amidst several unexpected twists.
During Tuesday's instalment, presenter Bradley Walsh welcomed four hopefuls-Binesh, Tash, Omar, and Annabelle-who were all keen to demonstrate their quizzing prowess against Anne "The Governess" Hegerty. Anne was on her A-game, swiftly eliminating Binesh, the opening contestant.
The show progressed with Anne successfully catching Tash and Omar as well, compelling Annabelle to go solo in the fierce final standoff.
The Chase airs Mondays-Fridays at 5pm on ITV1.
