Prince Harry attended an event in New York last night where he mingled with dignitaries, celebrities and a lesser-known foreign royal, Queen Mathilde of Belgium.

The Duke of Sussex, 40, warmly greeted Queen Mathilde as they both attended a dinner organised by the World Health Organization (WHO) honouring survivors of childhood violence.

His wife Meghan Markle was noticeably absent from the event - after she also skipped Kevin Costner's charity concert at his beachfront estate on Saturday night that Harry attended solo.

Other well-known faces included actor Forest Whitaker, and several UN Agency Heads - including head of the WHO, Dr. Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus.

The dinner came ahead of the UN General Assembly, which kicks off today in Manhattan.

The dinner focused on 'Violence against children and its impact on Mental Health', an issue the Duke and Duchess of Sussex have been keen to promote in recent years.

Speaking at the event, MC Will Poulter said: "Violence takes many forms - both physical and psychological - and each leaves a lasting impact on those who experience it.

"With one billion children around the world experiencing such violence, the statistics are staggering, but they represent real lives.

"It's our collective responsibility to ensure that these children are protected."
