Peak woke has almost passed - but guess who's still not getting the message?

Whisper it quietly, but I do believe we could be edging past peak woke.The Supreme Court judgment confirming the bleedin' obvious that a woman is a woman, firms large and small quietly dropping their diversity, equity and inclusivity programmes, the ending of the twisted insistence that you name your "preferred" pronouns.

It's almost like a bit of common sense taking hold instead of a contrived political dynamic that relies on division and a ruthless refusal to allow discussion and debate. The course from woke dogma to reasonable normality may still take some time and be a rocky path, I realise.

And hello, hello, hello: little surprise that plod appears to be one of the slower institutions willing to move with the times. The latest example is the Met, which has now introduced bespoke training sessions for ethnic minorities and women only to help them get promotion. The telltale sign is that not only are white male officers barred - the email to those lucky enough to be invited requests the offer isn't shared. So discriminatory and sneaky.

This comes after West Yorkshire Police was accused of having a "racist" recruitment policy by putting a temporary block on the hiring of white candidates. The Chief Constable even went as far as saying that he wanted positive discrimination against white British candidates to be legal in order to boost the number of ethnic minorities in the police.

But the thin blue line seems to be on thin ice to me. Like millions of others, I really don't care what colour or sex our officers are. And there are potential boys and girls in blue out there from all walks of life. But the police need to be doing a better job than they are doing.

If the powers that be spent less of their precious time on woke social engineering and more time on getting the best people in doing the job whatever their background, then we all might all be sleeping a little bit easier at night.
