Liverpool target Jeremie Frimpong has already revealed his dream next club

target Jeremie Frimpong has already hinted that he would rather join another club to complete his 'dream' move. The former Manchester City and Celtic defender is reportedly advancing in talks over a potential summer move to Anfield. He is thought to have been earmarked as Liverpool's chosen replacement for , who is joining Real Madrid.

Over the last few days, Liverpool are said to have approached Bayer Leverkusen to register their interest in Frimpong's signature. He reportedly has a release clause of around £30million, meaning the Reds can bypass club negotiations by simply matching it. The player himself is understood to be keen on joining the Merseyside giants ahead of next season.

That was not always the case, though, with Frimpong having previously declared his love for a different Premier League team. Three years ago, he was asked by to name his dream club and said that he had always wanted to join Chelsea.

"It was actually always Chelsea," he revealed. "As a kid, I used to watch Chelsea games with my uncle, mostly because of Didier Drogba."

Frimpong appears to have changed his mind since then, having suggested in a subsequent interview that he would jump at the chance to join Liverpool.

Quizzed on the possibility of moving to Anfield by Ziggo Sport last year, he responded: "A great club, with history. That would be great. Who knows what the future will bring?"

Only time will tell if the Reds can finalise a move for Frimpong in the coming weeks, with negotiations believed to be progressing behind closed doors.

The player's agent, Jeffrey Lemmert, which some Liverpool fans took as a positive sign. The message read: 'We working', followed by hourglass and rock climbing emojis.

Frimpong is a natural right-back but is often tasked with leading his team forward in wide areas, in a similar way to Alexander-Arnold. This season, he has chipped in with 11 goal contributions from 33 league appearances.

Last weekend, the 24-year-old played and scored in Bayer Leverkusen's final home game of the season against Borussia Dortmund. He celebrated with his manager, Xabi Alonso, who recently announced that he will be leaving at the end of the season.

In a heartfelt tribute to the former Liverpool midfielder on Instagram, Frimpong wrote: "Lived it. Loved it. Farewell, Coach [love heart emoji]."
