is through to her first doubles final since ending her wildly successful partnership with Coco Gauff.
The Americans , though Pegula has since entered three tournaments with other players.
And her new pairing with Asia Muhammad is proving successful - the unseeded duo are through to the championship match at the Wuhan Open.
Pegula and Gauff won five titles together and both reached world No. 1 in the doubles rankings. But their main goal was the Olympics, where they failed to win a medal.
Both players had made it clear they would limit their doubles schedule after the Paris Games and they did just that. But Pegula's split with Gauff hasn't stopped her from enjoying success with other partners.
The 30-year-old reached the Canadian Open quarter-final with Giuliana Olmos over the summer. And she's now through to the Wuhan Open final with Muhammad.
The all-American pairing beat Aldila Sutjiadi and Leylah Fernandez in Saturday's semi-final to reach the championship match. Afterwards, Pegula praised Muhammad for "carrying" the team.
The singles world No. 3 said: "I mean it was a really tough match. I think all of us were serving really well so for me I had to make a few more returns but Asia I feel like carried us today, she played great."
Pegula and Muhammad will now face either Anna Daniilina and Irina Khromacheva or Ekaterina Alexandrova and Katerina Siniakova, who will face off in the second semi-final later on Saturday.
Muhammad added: "I know we're going to go out there and have fun. Hopefully we can play well, I think we were really solid today. We're going to give our best effort."
Pegula's final run with the doubles No. 20 comes just two months after she shared doubts about her doubles future after confirming she would no longer play with Gauff. "For me, I'm not sure," she said during the Cincinnati Open.
"I know Coco doesn't really, isn't interested in playing, or at least I'm not, we're not thinking of playing, so I probably will take it easy on the doubles the rest of the year, so, yeah, we'll see.
"I think I'll just play maybe whenever I kind of want to. And maybe just focus on singles the rest of the year."
Pegula did focus on singles - she defended her title at the WTA 1000 in Canada and reached her maiden Grand Slam final at the US Open. But she's still enjoying doubles glory in Wuhan.
