Gorgeous walkable European city that's just 10 minutes from its nearest airport

Zurich may not be top of your to-visit list due to it's reputation as something of a business and finance-focused city, but this gorgeous Swiss city should not be skipped over.

Located in north-central Switzerland, on the northwestern tip of Lake Zurich, Zurich is the largest city in the country, and despite this size, remains quite walkable.

After landing at Zurich airport, tourists can embark on a high-speed train that will then take them into the city centre in just 10 to 15 minutes. This is opposed to a long journey into the city you may expect from some other European airports.

And those hoping to travel on foot will be delighted that many of the city's key landmarks are within minutes of each other, and even those that aren't are easily accessible by public transport.

The city even has its own app that can help tourists by giving up-to-date advice, and can be used when paying for entry into museums and other landmarks and as a travel pass.

The Zurich tourist site lists 10 must-visit landmarks, the majority of which are well within walking distance of one another. These include the twin towers of the Grossmünster, the Zurich Opera House, and the National Museum Zurich.

The first of these, the Grossmünster Church, is the city's most prominent landmark, with legend claiming it was built on the graves of the city's patron saints, Felix and Regula.

On the opposite bank of the Limmat River is the Fraumünster Church, which was founded as a Catholic Church and convent by King Louis the German in 853. The church is now part of the Evangelical Reformed Church of the canton of Zürich.

Less than a 10-minute walk from the churches is Lindenhof Park, which is right in the heart of the city's old town, another must-visit location for tourists. This park is recorded as existing as early as 80BC and is thought of as the starting point of Zurich's history, and gives a perfect view of the old town.

Zurich's Old Town offers tourists interesting sights, culinary delights and shopping, and with some parts of it totally pedestrianised, you won't have to worry about modern cars ruining the old-timey vibes.

Other nearby landmarks include Switzerland's oldest art gallery, the Kunsthaus Zürich, and Bahnhofstrasse, the city's shopping boulevard. You can also head to the bank of Lake Zurich for a relaxing lake cruise organised by Lake Zurich Navigation Company.

And if a boat ride isn't quite your thing, some parts of this stunning lake can be used for wild swimming - just be sure to check any safety precautions before diving in.

A bit further afield is Uetliberg is Zurich's very own "mountain", which is a 29-minute train journey from Zurich's main station, with its breathtaking views of the city and lake certainly making it worth the short journey.
