was cut short mid-broadcast for a breaking news announcement as lifted the lid on his tense phone call with Russian President Vladimir Putin. The call comes after a Ukrainian drone attack on Russian bomber airfields following a broader deadlock in efforts to end the war in Ukraine. The U.S. president took to Truth Social on Wednesday (June 4) saying the call lasted around an hour and 15 minutes and included a discussion of the latest military escalations.
"It was a good conversation, but not a conversation that will lead to immediate Peace," Trump wrote. He said the two discussed the drone strike and "various other attacks that have been taking place by both sides." Trump noted that Putin was firm in his warning that Russia would retaliate. He went on: "President Putin did say, and very strongly, that he will have to respond to the recent attack on the airfields."
The two leaders also reportedly discussed Trump's ongoing efforts to reach a new nuclear deal with Iran.
"I stated to President Putin that Iran cannot have a nuclear weapon and, on this, I believe that we were in agreement," Trump wrote.
"President Putin suggested that he will participate in the discussions with Iran and that he could, perhaps, be helpful in getting this brought to a rapid conclusion," Trump said.
"It is my opinion that Iran has been slowwalking their decision on this very important matter, and we will need a definitive answer in a very short period of time!"
Wednesday's phone call marks the second time Trump and Putin have spoken since May 19.
Trump has made it clear he wants to broker an end to the war in Ukraine, but despite some recent direct talks between Russian and Ukrainian officials, a ceasefire appears far from imminent.

Russia invaded Ukraine in February 2022 after amassing thousands of troops at the border, triggering the largest European conflict since World War II.
While there was previously agreement to move forward with another prisoner exchange, talks between Moscow and Kyiv remain deadlocked over how to end the brutal, years-long war.
Russia has doubled down on its hardline stance, delivering a memorandum to Ukrainian negotiators that reasserts its maximalist demands - terms that amount to little more than a call for Ukrainian surrender.
Moscow is demanding Ukraine withdraw from four partially occupied regions it has illegally annexed - a concession Kyiv has flatly refused.
The proposal also insists on strict military limitations that Ukraine must never join a military alliance, host foreign troops, or pursue nuclear weapons.
In effect, it's full-scale demilitarization - a condition viewed as unacceptable by Ukraine and many of its Western allies.
Other demands include the restoration of diplomatic and economic ties, no war reparations, and the lifting of all Western sanctions against Russia.
