fans brace yourselves, as Oliver Farnworth, who portrays John Sugden in the popular soap, has hinted that death may soon return to haunt the dales. Embodying John Sugden, the new enigmatic arrival to the village, Farnworth's character quickly finds himself embroiled in turmoil when his dark history comes to light.
This joyous week should celebrate John's wedding with Aaron Dingle, after both gents uncovered their 'happy ever after' together, though Aaron remains oblivious to John's ominous skeletons. It's come to light that John might very well have a hand in the tragic fate of his ex-fiance Aidan Moore.
The dramatic twists kept viewers on edge as earlier this week the soap revealed Aidan falling back into a coma post-heart attack. Despite John's sinister plans to silence Aidan permanently by injection, he hesitated at the final moment.
Unfortunately for Aidan, a heart attack intervened.
"Why? Why did you have to start talking?" John bitterly questioned the bedridden Aidan, as he loomed over his former flame with a stark ultimatum. "I loved you, more than you ever did me," he confided to an unresponsive Aidan, "I tried to show you how much you needed me... I saved you. It was only because you were too weak that it ended like us... It wasn't like that - I save people. It's what I do, it's who I am.", reports
"I never wanted to have to do this but you gave me no choice. I wanted something painless so you'd just drop off but my mum wouldn't leave me alone so this is all I could grab," he disclosed before muffling the life-support machine and preparing to administer the deadly dose.
's set visit on Wednesday gleaned some intriguing insights from actor Oliver Farnworth, who plays John in the soap. Speaking live from the Dales, he revealed: "He's clearly troubled. Something's happened at some point in his life... He's got a hero complex. He's got a false sense of esteem.
"He adores Aaron and he's invested so much in his relationship. He considers Aaron the absolute love of his life. He'll do anything to convince Aaron to walk down the aisle."
Soap pundit Sharon Marshall expressed her concerns for character Mackenzie after viewing the flashforward, with Oliver swiftly steering the discussion towards the big day - provided it goes ahead. The segment wrapped up with Marshall teasing that she would investigate whether another murder was brewing or if John would indeed get the opportunity to tie the knot with Aaron.
In a heart-to-heart, John finally divulges to Victoria his haunting encounter with Aidan, confessing: "I tried my best to save him. I told him I could but I was lying, I had to. I could see the fear in his eyes. I held his hand as he slowly slipped away. Aidan thought I could save him and I let him down. I can never forgive myself for that."
Although viewers are privy to the fact that Aidan, albeit in a coma, remains alive, Nate's demise at the hands of John was an unequivocal shock. Currently, Nate's corpse remains hidden under the water surface in the lake, while Jacob endured an allergic reaction caused by John's actions, who subsequently emerged as his saviour.
Danny Miller, appearing on hinted at a possible comeback for Robert Sugden with a cheeky remark: "It's so weird, the line's just gone down as you've asked that question."
He teased further, saying, "What I will say is there are some surprises, whether that happens or not, I don't know. But certainly what I can say is that originally when this idea was pitched and thought about, Robert, whoever that is, wasn't part of the plan."
