Chelsea have reportedly been given the opportunity to secure a £45million deal for Aston Villa's goalkeeper, Emiliano Martinez. Aston Villa are prepared to sell the World Cup-winning Argentine to alleviate concerns over failing the Premier League's PSR test, knowing that Chelsea are in need of a new first-choice keeper.
Manchester United have also shown interest in the 32-year-old former Arsenal stopper, with rumours from South America suggesting he would favour a move to Old Trafford. However, United manager Ruben Amorim has other issues to tackle this summer and can't afford a new first-choice keeper unless they find a club willing to pay £35m for Andre Onana.
This situation has paved the way for Chelsea to intensify their efforts after Robert Sanchez and Filip Jorgensen failed to make an impact under manager Enzo Maresca.
Martinez has a strong supporter at Stamford Bridge in the form of assistant manager Willy Caballero. He has been outstanding during his six years at Villa Park and was lauded as the world's best goalkeeper after performing brilliantly for Argentina in their victory in Qatar in 2022.
Villa are interested in Royal Antwerp's highly-rated Senne Lammens, but several other clubs, including United, are also tracking the 22-year-old.
Villa need to sell to balance their finances and are hesitant to lose rising England star Morgan Rogers. It looks set to be a summer of high-profile goalkeeper transfers.
Newcastle United are reportedly closing in on Burnley's James Trafford, despite the Clarets' hefty £40m price tag on the England Under-21 international.
The Magpies had a £17m offer for Trafford turned down last year, and their reluctance to fork out an additional £5m could now prove costly.

Newcastle were hoping to secure Trafford for around £30m this summer, but the newly-promoted Clarets are obligated to pay Manchester City 20 per cent of any profit they make on Trafford, as part of the £15m deal that brought him to Turf Moor two years ago.
Leeds are keeping a close eye on Newcastle's pursuit of Trafford, as they have their sights set on acquiring England international Nick Pope from the Tyneside club to bolster their own Premier League survival chances.
Pope has since posted a message on Trafford's Instagram story saying 'see you soon'. While Burnley have signed 21-year-old Max Weiss from German club Karlsruher, manager Scott Parker is likely to want a more experienced keeper if he loses Trafford to ambitious Newcastle.
