With the hot temperatures gripping the nation recently, a cold bowl of ice cream has served as the perfect fix for many people. Ice cream is the ultimate dessert option for most people as it can easily be bought from the supermarket and comes in a variety of flavours.
However, there is a way to make store-bought ice cream taste even better. A recipe developer shared the tip, revealing that their 20 years of experience taught them how to "achieve wondrous results" when upgrading readily available ice cream, including making this one simple addition.
Melissa Gaman explained the importance of preserving the churned air in a store-bought vanilla ice cream base when flavouring it. However, noted that there is a way to "lighten the texture" to give it an airy and mouse-like fluff.
She revealed that all you need is double cream to transform dense, rich ice cream into a light, airy treat that "melts in your mouth."
The first step is to take the double cream and "use a method of whipping cream to stiff peaks," making sure to stop before it clumps up. This can be easily and quickly done with an electric mixer. The next step is to fold the cream into softened vanilla ice cream until it is completely blended, and then simply refreeze it.
The chef recommends adding half a cup of whipped cream to four cups of ice cream, although the measurements can be tweaked.

She wrote on Tasting Table: "This method works because it has a similar process to making mousse. The light texture in mousse comes from gradually adding air from whipped cream or egg whites into a heavy base, until the two textures fuse. In this case, softened ice cream is the heavy base.
"Add the whipped cream in two to three batches, fully blending each batch in before adding the next, to make blending the two elements easier, and create a more stable final result."
And just like that, the simple addition of whipped cream will completely transform regular ice cream into a delicious and lightly textured treat without much effort.
