stalwart Nadiya Bychkova has suffered a significant setback as she sustained an injury during rehearsals, The incident took place on Wednesday whilst Nadiya was perfecting a group performance routine and resulted in her falling and landing awkwardly on her hand.
The Ukranian-born professional dancer, 35, fell and landed on her hand during rehearsals and is believed to have broken her thumb after taking a horror fall during rehearsals, throwing the BBC show into chaos as Saturday night's episode is just days away.
According to reports, medical personnel were swift to respond at the scene of the accident and an X-ray later corroborated fears of a fracture, with the dancer being urged to rest.
A source revealed to The Sun: "Nadiya was training with the other pros when she fell. Her thumb essentially snapped and it appeared extremely painful."
They elaborated on the tenacity of the dancer: "Everyone gathered around her. Nadiya's thumb was severely swollen and bruised, but she doesn't want to disappoint anyone and is determined she can perform the pre-recorded number."
They added, "A doctor eventually cleared her, and she will be able to film, but fellow pros might treat her with kid gloves."
Despite the setback, insiders insisted that Nadiya is resolute in her intention to dance this weekend. Producers have given the nod for her participation in balcony scenes set for tomorrow nights broadcast and in a group number scheduled later in the season.
The same source noted Nadiya's commitment to appearing during Saturday night's live show, saying, "A doctor eventually gave her the all-clear and she will be able to film, but might be handled with care by fellow pros."
"Nadiya will also be present on Saturday for the live show - she's insistent that the show must quite literally go on."
The news comes after this year's series has been dealt with several blows, including show contestant Nick Knowles, who was forced to wear a sling after hurting his arm while changing a tyre.
He then injured his knee during rehearsals before being eliminated.
This injury blow comes hard on the heels of Amy Dowden being side-lined for the forthcoming Icons week after an illness overtook her subsequent to the previous weeks performance.
The professional dancer, who took a break last year for breast cancer treatment, will not be present this week after falling ill backstage.
She pulled out temporarily and was replaced by Lauren Oakley, with fans eagerly awaiting news about if and when she might return to the stage.
Now, has clarified that she has "taken some time to get better".
