Celebrity Traitors viewers have expressed their fury over the latest star to be 'murdered' on the BBC One game show, claiming the Traitors made a catastrophic "blunder".

During Wednesday's (22 October) episode opening, viewers discovered that the trio of Traitors - Jonathan Ross, Alan Carr and Cat Burns - had decided to eliminate Charlotte Church, after deliberating between her, Kate Garraway and David Olusoga.

The shocking moment witnessed singer Charlotte 'murdered' overnight, with the remaining Celebrity Traitors cast discovering her departure the next morning during their breakfast gathering.

Stephen Fry addressed actress Celia Imrie, declaring: "How wrong we are!" whilst Mark Bonnar maintained: "That's utterly insane."

Viewers at home expressed comparable sentiments across social media platforms, with one posting on X: "Gutted Charlotte Church is out. Would have loved to have seen her recruited. #CelebrityTraitors #TheTraitors."

"Loved Charlotte Church as well #celebritytraitors," another wrote, whilst a third protested: "Charlotte Church is a national treasure! Shame on the traitors. #CelebrityTraitors."

Additional fans highlighted a massive "blunder" in the Traitors' strategy, commenting: "The traitors made a mistake killing Charlotte, she would have been banished.#CelebrityTraitors."

Another viewer questioned: "Now why the hell would they kill charlotte when almost everyone thought she was a traitor so she was the perfect bait? ? ? #celebritytraitors."

Despite the shock of her co-stars and fans, Charlotte wasn't taken aback when she was selected to be 'murdered' by the Traitors. She confessed that her outspoken nature during her stint on the show likely made her a target, reports Daily Record.

"I thought I was going to be murdered," Charlotte candidly confessed after discovering she was the latest casualty.

She elaborated: "I'm outspoken at the roundtable and I'm outspoken with my opinions. Not that I was successful in being much of a threat to the Traitors.

"But as the game progressed, I hope that I would have been and I hope that's why they have gotten rid of me. Well played, Traitors."

Charlotte is the fourth celebrity to be 'murdered' on the BBC show, following Paloma Faith, Tom Daley and Ruth Codd. Meanwhile, Clare Balding, Niko Omilana and Tameka Empson have all been banished by their co-stars, who suspected them of being Traitors but were proven wrong when they each were revealed to be Faithfuls.

Celebrity Traitors airs on BBC One at 9pm on Wednesday and Thursday. Episodes are available to stream via BBC iPlayer.
