The Tata Group has set an ambitious goal to create 500,000 manufacturing jobs over the next five years. Chairman N. Chandrasekaran announced this plan during a symposium hosted by the Indian Foundation for Quality Management.
Chandrasekaran emphasized that these jobs will span various sectors, including semiconductors, electric vehicles, batteries, and related industries. He pointed out that manufacturing job creation is essential for India's vision of becoming a developed nation. "We cannot achieve the goals of Viksit Bharat if we cannot create manufacturing jobs," he said, highlighting the growing workforce entering the job market.
The drive to create these jobs will be fueled by Tata Group's investments across multiple sectors. "Between our investments in semiconductors, precision manufacturing, assembly, electric vehicles, batteries, and related industries, I think we will create five lakh manufacturing jobs in the next five years," he noted.
To support this initiative, the Tata Group is establishing new facilities, including a semiconductor plant in Assam and additional plants for electric vehicles and batteries. Chandrasekaran mentioned that these jobs would have a significant multiplier effect, leading to the establishment of many small and medium-sized enterprises within the ecosystem.
He also stressed the importance of government support in these endeavors. He remarked that modern manufacturing sectors, like semiconductors, often create multiple indirect jobs for every direct position filled. To address the employment needs of the expanding workforce, he pointed out that India needs to generate 100 million jobs.
