PM Modi Compares Congress to British Rule Over Ganesh Utsav Controversy

Bhubaneswar: Prime Minister Narendra Modi criticized the Congress party for their agitation over Ganesh Utsav, drawing parallels between their current stance and the British colonial era. Speaking at an event in Bhubaneswar, Modi suggested that just as the British had issues with Ganesh Utsav, today’s Congress and those seeking power are similarly disturbed by the festival.

Referring to the recent controversy surrounding his attendance at Ganesh Puja at Chief Justice DY Chandrachud’s residence, Modi remarked, “Ganesh Utsav is not just a festival of faith. It played a significant role in India's independence. The British, who employed a 'Divide and Rule' strategy, were irritated by Ganesh Utsav. Similarly, today’s individuals and groups seeking to divide Indian society are also troubled by the festival.”

Modi also criticized the Karnataka government for placing a Ganesh idol behind bars, which he claimed disturbed the nation. “We must prevent such hateful actions from progressing,” he said.

During his visit, Modi inaugurated the Subhdra scheme, a major initiative by the Odisha government. He highlighted the achievements of the "double-engine government" and reassured that promises made, including opening all doors of the Bhagwan Jagannath Temple, have been fulfilled.

“Today marks the 100th day of the NDA government at the Centre, during which significant decisions have been made for the empowerment of the poor, farmers, youth, and women,” Modi added.

The Prime Minister also shared a personal moment, reminiscing about his late mother while eating 'kheer' offered by an Adivasi family. “It reminded me of my mother, who used to feed me 'Gud' on my birthday,” Modi said.

In addition, Modi interacted with beneficiaries of the PM Awas Yojana-Urban (PMAY-U) in Bhubaneswar and emphasized the significance of Hyderabad Mukti Divas, marking the end of Hyderabad’s annexation and its integration into India.

He also launched various development projects worth Rs 3,800 crore and the AWS+ 2024 app for household surveys under PMAY-G. The Prime Minister inaugurated the 'Subhdra' scheme, which will provide Rs 50,000 over five years to eligible women between 21 and 60 years old.
