Lebanon's Ambassador to India Speaks on Hamas Leader's Death and Palestinian Resistance

New Delhi: Lebanon's Ambassador to India, Rabie Narsh, addressed the media regarding the death of Hamas leader Yahya Sinwar, asserting that the Palestinian resistance will endure due to their fundamental rights. Speaking at a press conference in the capital, Narsh emphasized that the Palestinian struggle continues because they have the right to resist occupation, live with dignity, and aspire for a future.

Quoting Mahatma Gandhi, Narsh stated, "I do not have enough information about it, it only happened last night, but I said it once, that Gandhi ji said, you can kill a revolutionary, but you can never kill the revolution. There is no cause in the world that is confined to a single person." He added, "Sinwar is not the only leader of Hamas who has been killed. But I'm sure that the Palestinian resistance will go on because they have the right to resist occupation and the right for their independent state."

The ambassador also highlighted Israel's efforts to tarnish the reputation of the Palestinian people, alleging a well-funded campaign of misinformation and propaganda. "As you might all know, we are facing a relentless campaign to tarnish our reputation, a campaign that is waged by Israel and its agents," he stated. Narsh described this campaign as being manipulated by a "digital army" that exploits social media to spread false information.

He urged listeners to consider the history of the region, questioning the origins of the current conflict. "If you read the history, you will know why we are here... It started with the creation of Israel. We admit that Jews have been subjected to horrendous crimes and holocausts. But ask yourself, at the hands of whom? It happened in Europe and from the hands of Europeans," he said.

The Israel Defense Forces (IDF) announced on Thursday that Sinwar, along with two other terrorists, had been eliminated. Following Sinwar's death, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu addressed the people of Gaza, stating that the war could end immediately if Hamas agreed to lay down its arms and return the hostages. In a video shared on X, Netanyahu said, "Yahya Sinwar is dead. He was killed in Rafah by the brave soldiers of the Israeli defense forces. While this is not the end of the war in Gaza, it's the beginning of the end."

Hamas launched a significant attack on Israel on October 7, 2023, leading to the deaths of over 1,200 people and the taking of more than 250 hostages. In retaliation, Israel launched a counter-offensive in the Gaza Strip, pledging to "completely eliminate" Hamas. However, the rising civilian casualties have prompted global concern about the humanitarian situation in Gaza, with calls from the United Nations and other nations for a ceasefire, the return of hostages, and increased humanitarian assistance for civilians.
