Kamala Harris Calls for Immigration System Reform in Pre-Election Interview

In a recent interview, U.S. Vice President Kamala Harris stressed that the country's immigration system is broken and requires urgent reform. Harris made the remarks during a rare conversation with Fox News host Bret Baier, where she was repeatedly questioned on issues like illegal immigration and gender transition surgeries funded by taxpayers.

As the election approaches, Harris defended her record on immigration, pointing out the challenges her administration faces. When Baier asked for the number of undocumented immigrants who had crossed the border during the Biden-Harris administration, Harris did not provide a specific figure. Instead, she emphasized, "We have a broken immigration system that needs to be repaired."

During the interview, Baier interrupted several times as Harris attempted to explain the administration’s actions, including the reversal of former President Donald Trump’s border policies. One major point of contention was the end of the “Remain in Mexico” policy, which required immigrants to be detained while awaiting deportation. Baier questioned whether Harris regretted the decision to terminate the policy, noting that some individuals released from custody went on to commit crimes.

Harris responded by highlighting the administration’s early commitment to immigration reform, with a bill introduced shortly after taking office. She added that the administration had worked on strengthening the asylum system, increasing penalties for illegal crossings, and bolstering border security by adding more judges and resources.

The vice president also defended a bipartisan effort to enhance border security, which she said included a plan to add 1,500 more border agents and combat the influx of fentanyl into the U.S. Harris claimed that former President Trump urged his allies to block the bill, focusing on political gains rather than addressing the ongoing issues at the border.

As the election draws closer, Harris made it clear that the outcome will impact the future of immigration reform in the U.S., stressing the importance of leadership that prioritizes solutions over political maneuvering.
