Historic Talks Set Between Meitei, Kuki, and Naga Leaders to Address Manipur Crisis

Imphal: In a significant development, representatives from the Meitei and Kuki communities are scheduled to meet with Naga MLAs and leaders for the first time since the outbreak of violence in Manipur on May 3, 2023. The meeting, organized by the Ministry of Home Affairs, is expected to take place on Tuesday in the national capital.

This marks the first direct dialogue between Kuki and Meitei representatives, showcasing the Central government's efforts to promote discussions and foster reconciliation between the two communities amid the prolonged conflict.

Objective of the Talks The talks aim to explore solutions to the ongoing crisis and work toward restoring peace and stability in Manipur. The Centre's initiative underlines its commitment to facilitating communication between the fractured communities and ensuring a peaceful resolution.

Participants in the Dialogue According to sources, the Meitei delegation will include MLAs and ministers such as Thongam Biswajit, Speaker Thokchom Satyabrata, Thounaojam Basantakumar, Khongbantabam Ibomcha, Dr. Sapam Ranjan, Thokchom Radheshyam, and Tongbram Robindro.

The Kuki community will be represented by Letpao Haokip, Paolienlal Haokip, Haokholet Kipgen, and others. Meanwhile, the Naga delegation will include MLAs and ministers like Awangbow Newmai, L. Dikho, and Ram Muivah. This dialogue is a crucial step towards bridging the divide and finding a path forward for Manipur’s communities.
