Many people think sunglasses are just a style statement, but they're actually a vital tool for protecting your skin. According to Dr. Neeti Gaur, sunglasses not only protect the skin around your eyes from the sun's harmful rays, but they also help prevent wrinkles.
When we go out in the sun without sunglasses, the bright light on our eyes causes us to repeatedly squint. This repetitive facial movement gradually causes wrinkles. In contrast, when you wear sunglasses, your eyes are protected from direct light, and your face remains relaxed. This prevents your skin from repeatedly making expressions, significantly reducing the likelihood of wrinkles. Therefore, if you want to avoid wrinkles, consider including sunglasses as part of your skincare routine, not just sunscreen.
Myth 2- Chewing gum causes wrinkles
It's a common myth that chewing gum regularly exercises your face and tightens your skin. But according to Dr. Neeti Gaur, the truth is different. Constantly moving your facial muscles in the same pattern—such as chewing gum, smiling repeatedly, or raising your eyebrows—puts repetitive strain on your skin. When this is done for a long time, it reduces skin elasticity and deepens wrinkles in that area. "If you chew gum constantly, your facial muscles work in the same direction over and over again," says Dr. Neeti. "This can increase wrinkles, especially around the mouth."
So, if you think chewing gum is an anti-aging exercise, that's a myth. A healthy diet, proper moisturizing, and sun protection are far more effective at maintaining toned facial skin.
