Rachel Reeves is facing a Parliamentary watchdog probe after allegedly failing to register a freebie properly.

The Chancellor accepted four tickets to a theatre show in London two days after . But the gift was not declared on the MPs' register of interests until March - despite rules stating this should be done in 28 days.

Ms Reeves referred herself to Parliamentary Standards Commissioner Daniel Greenberg over the late entry, it is understood. Parliament's website confirmed the Commissioner is investigating an alleged "registration of interests" offence.

It is believed Ms Reeves told the Commissioner that an admin error was to blame. The investigation is around four theatre tickets worth £276 which were gifted to Ms Reeves by the National Theatre in December. Although these were declared on time for the ministerial register, Government members are also required to update the members' register - which records the interests of all MPs.

The gift, received on December 27, was not declared on this register until March 27, official records showed. A spokesperson for the frontbencher said: "The Chancellor's interests are fully declared and up to date."

The entry in the register of members' interests states that the Chancellor received four tickets to a performance for herself and three family members two days after Christmas.

Ms Reeves came under fire earlier this year for accepting tickets to a Sabrina Carpenter concert with a family member - and vowed not to do so again.

The Chancellor, who defended the gift on security grounds, said in March: “I wouldn’t do it again, I felt I was doing the right thing but I do understand perceptions.

“I’m not intending to take concert tickets in the future. But you know, it is a balancing act in my job to try and be a good parent and also do my job with some of the security challenges that I face.”
