Now, it's been revealed that Billy Fletcher will soon be arrested for the crime - but did he do it? Among many other villagers, Joe has made an enemy in Billy who recently learnt Dawn was seeing Joe behind his back. On top of this, he also learnt the villain had threatened his daughter Clemmie. But he's not the only one with a motive...
In the latest episode, Kim told Dawn that the detective would be paying Billy a visit.
"Do you think Billy did this?" Dawn asked, to which Kim responded: I think he got very upset when he thought you and Ross were an item, and that wasn't even true.
"And he didn't seem overly pleased to see you and Joe dancing tonight."
At the end of the episode, the suspects were told that if Joe died, the charge would become murder, and the punishment would be much more severe. But will Joe survive?
Many are convinced it was Billy, as one took to X, formerly known as to write: "Billy did it wtfff #," as another agreed: "Reckon it's Billy or Cain who did it it's gotta be someone strong to give him that much of a shove #Emmerdale."
However, others aren't so convinced, with one writing: "I got a feeling it was Clemmie. Don't think it was Billy #Emmerdale, as a second agreed: "Think it’s too obvious to be either Billy or Kerry. Don’t think they’d show their hand that quickly. #Emmerdale."
Joe actor Ned Porteous recently spoke to The about the shocking storyline, but he was careful not to give too much away.
Asked whether Joe would want revenge on the culprit, should he survive, the star said: "I’m sure he will. There will be some sort of vengeance. It’s not a nice thing to be pushed out of a window so I’m sure he’s quite miffed about that."
Addressing whether there would be any redemption for his character, Ned laughed: "Oh god! I’m not sure there’s too much charm and charisma you can give someone to get them to forgive you for all that. I’d like to think so."
Emmerdale airs weeknights at 7:30pm on ITV1 and ITVX, with an hour-long episode on Thursdays.
