Death in Paradise star Ben Miller's new series wins over fans after one episode

Death in Paradise's star, Ben Miller, has bagged a new TV gig and the 'hilarious' series is already winning over fans. The much-anticipated Australian sitcom Austin made its debut on UK screens last week with Ben taking the lead.

Although it's early days with just one episode out, the rave reviews from Down Under suggest it's a show to watch.

Australian audiences have hailed the show as "hilarious". One thrilled viewer took to social media platform X, exclaiming: "Oh my god! If you can watch @ABCTV's Austin- DO IT. It's incredibly well-written and hilarious! Michael Theo from Love on the Spectrum is the lead. Congratulations to everyone involved!" when the show premiered in June of the previous year.

The comedy series is a British-Australian joint venture featuring Ben Miller, who also co-penned the script. He plays a successful children's book author who finds himself 'cancelled' after inadvertently retweeting a white supremacist.

Ben's character Julian later discovers he has a 28 year old neurodivergent son. Ben previously revealed that he was inspired to pen the show after watching Love on the Spectrum - a series that follows individuals on the autism spectrum as they navigate the of dating.

He even brought on Michael Theo, the standout personality from the Australian dating series, to play the lead role. In an interview with Radio Times, Ben explained his casting choice: "Michael's autism is not the story. He's a very talented actor. I saw him on Love on the Spectrum and I thought it would be fun to lark about with him. My aim was just to make a funny show, not to campaign, not to be worthy. I'm allergic to things like that."

Sally Phillips, known for her role in Bridget Jones' Diary portrays Ingrid, the wife of Ben's character Julian. Ben spoke highly of having Sally in the cast, saying: "I'd seen her do it before, and she seemed a natural choice.

"I'd wanted to work with Sally for decades. She came on board really early, and for a while it was just the three of us, working out what the story was. It ended up being really close to Michael's life, as he embarks on his journey through the world, finding out who he really is."
