In a heart-wrenching scene from Rajasthan’s Udaipur district, a husband and wife were cremated on the same pyre after dying just hours apart. The wife, who had been devastated by her husband’s passing, collapsed and died shortly after performing his final farewell rituals.
The incident unfolded in Badrana village in the Jhadol area, where 65-year-old Sukhlal Lohar, who had been battling illness for weeks, died late Wednesday night. As mourning relatives gathered the next morning to prepare for his funeral, tragedy struck again—his wife, Radha Devi, unable to bear the shock, collapsed and died barely eight hours later.
Family members revealed that Radha Devi had stopped eating days earlier out of deep concern for her husband’s deteriorating condition. Though she had recently recovered from cancer, the emotional toll of Sukhlal’s illness weighed heavily on her.
As part of a traditional ritual known as Gulal Dastoor, Radha Devi saw her husband’s face one last time and took part in the customary farewell. Moments later, while walking back to her room, she suddenly collapsed. Despite attempts to revive her, she passed away soon after.
The couple’s joint cremation drew a large gathering from the village. The sight of the two being laid to rest together, surrounded by grieving villagers, moved many to tears.
They leave behind a son, a teacher at a local private school, who now must bear the weight of this profound personal loss.
