COVID-19 has returned to India, causing concern as over 270 new cases have been reported nationwide. The emergence of new variants NB.1.8.1 and LF.7 has made the situation more severe.
In Karnataka’s capital Bengaluru, the first COVID-related death has been confirmed—an 85-year-old man with pre-existing health conditions. Over the past 24 hours, 108 people were tested in Karnataka, with 5 new positive cases reported. Currently, there are 38 active cases in the state, with 32 in Bengaluru alone. Other districts including Ballari, Bengaluru Rural, Mangaluru, Vijayanagar, and Mysuru have also reported cases. A pregnant woman in Belagavi recently returned from Pune has also tested positive. Several district hospitals, including Dharwad, have set up special ICU wards for COVID patients.
Delhi is witnessing a rise in cases again, with over 23 new infections. The health department has increased vigilance, and Delhi’s Health Minister Dr. Pankaj Kumar Singh recently held a high-level meeting to review the situation.
Maharashtra’s Thane district reported a COVID-related death of a young man, while Uttarakhand’s Rishikesh recorded two new cases linked to travelers from other states.
The growing number of cases across multiple states has put health authorities on alert as the country faces another wave of COVID-19.
