New Delhi: Y.S. Jagan Mohan Reddy-led YSR Congress Party is the latest party to have knocked the doors of the Supreme Court challenging the constitutionality of the Waqf (Amendment) Act 2025.

The party claims that the amendments fundamentally weaken the administration of waqfs and impose intrusive government control on Muslim endowments.

YSRCP informed about the petition on micro-blogging website X, "YSRCP has filed a petition in the Supreme Court challenging the Waqf Act, citing serious constitutional violations and failure to address the concerns of the Muslim community. The Bill violates Articles 13, 14, 25, and 26 of the Constitution—provisions that guarantee fundamental rights, equality before law, freedom of religion, and the autonomy of religious denominations to manage their own affairs."

The post further said, "The inclusion of non-Muslim members under Sections 9 and 14 is seen as interference in the internal functioning of Waqf institutions. This provision undermines the religious character and administrative independence of the Boards."

Others Who Filed A Petiton Against Waqf Act

Several others, including Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK) chief Vijay, AIMIM MP Asaduddin Owaisi, Congress MPs Mohammad Jawed and Imran Pratapgarhi, Aam Admi Party (AAP) MLA Amanatullah Khan, Azad Samaj Party chief Chandra Shekhar Azad, and Samajwadi Party (SP) MP Zia Ur Rehman Barq have also challenged the Act in the top court.

PM Modi Speaks On Waqf Act

Prime Minister Narendra Modi, addressing a public rally in Haryana on Sunday, April 13, criticised the Congress party over the Waqf law, accusing it of enabling land mafias while ignoring the plight of Muslims.

The PM claimed that the law, in its earlier form, had been exploited for decades, which resulted in the denial of economic opportunities for the very community it was intended to help.
